THE ADDAZIO RESIDENCE — Boston College head football coach Steve Addazio’s parents, Guy and Jude Addazio, will miss the team’s Parents’ Weekend matchup against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons this Saturday, as the couple reportedly informed their son they will once again have to miss Boston College’s Parents’ Weekend in order to visit their other son, Harvard Professor of Sociology Stephen Addazio, at Harvard’s Parents Weekend.
When questioned on it at his weekly pregame press conference, Addazio dismissed the matter, claiming it “does not bother [him] a bit,” and that he is “just focusing on beating Wake Forest.” Moments after the conclusion of the press conference, though, several members of the media reported seeing the head coach complaining to Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond.
“Every year they come up with some reason to not come to Parents’ Weekend,” Addazio exclaimed. “It’s either ‘Steve, we can’t make it this year because your brother’s presenting new research,’ or ‘Steve, we can’t make it this year because we already have dinner plans with your brother,’ or ‘Steve, we don’t have an excuse this year but we just don’t want to come to the game.’ And I’m tired of it!”
Assistant coaches and players alike were quick to express support for their head coach. “Coach has seemed pretty upset all week,” said defensive end Marcus Valdez (CSOM ’21). “He’s been a bit emotional at times at practice, but I can see why. I just hope he feels ready to go by kickoff this Saturday.”
At press time, the football team was seen telling Addazio that he could be adopted by their parents for the weekend.
