Addies-Adjacent Dining Location “Subtracties” To Open On Campus

LOWER LIVE — Boston College’s one and only math-themed cafeteria, Addies, has faced recent scrutiny by students who are invoking The Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890, Congress’s first antitrust law.
These students claim that Addies’ monopoly over math-themed cafeterias poses a potential threat to business practices across the country and should be challenged by the full power of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). With a beautiful loft style dining area and bird’s eye view of the bustling Lower Live, Addies is tough to beat. But it seems that the beloved ice cream hub of Boston College has officially met its match.
This past weekend, Addies was humbled as a new dining location “Subtracties” opened up straight across the Lower plaza. But what divides the latest BC cafeteria from its competition?
BC Dining student worker Divi Shawn (MCAS ’25), newly hired at Subtracties, provided us the inside scoop: “It’s time to put that trashy dining hall in its place. Subtracties will serve everything as advertised- just like how a food court should function.”
Divi isn’t wrong to throw shade. For the past month, Addies has promoted their business with a few key buzzwords, including “paninis” and “milkshakes.” However, reports show that a total of zero students have been able to get their hands on either of these products this year.
Like Addies, Subtracties also offers a salad bar. Math Club president Pam Das (MCAS ’23) expressed her thoughts on that new salad bar. “I’ve heard that instead of putting ingredients into the salad, they’ll just pick out ingredients you don’t want out of the premade ones. Kinda gross but I guess they wanted to stay on theme.”
As the battle of the math cafeterias drones on, the probability that the beloved Addies escapes unscathed declines. For now, we can only count on one thing: Lower is about to become exponentially nerdier.
