CLEVELAND CIRCLE — A deal struck among the owners of Boston College’s favorite dive bar will allow Mary Ann’s to reopen its doors, but only for three weeks. Mary Ann’s, also known as MA’s (also ALSO known as Mary Ann’s Family Style Italian Restaurant), shuttered its doors last month after negotiations surrounding the development of a bathroom wall reached an impasse.

If funded, the so-called “bathroom wall” would create a physical partition between the lone toilet and the rest of the the men’s restroom. Some critics have argued that such a structure would be “immoral” and “an ineffective use of the bar’s money.”

Marty Anne (BU ‘82), the owner and manager of the bar, has been the main proponent of the wall for months. In recent weeks, he has compromised his original vision by suggesting that the wall could be made out of see-through steel slats.

We need a wall in the bathroom to keep out undesirables, so that we can pee and poo poo in peace,” Anne said. “Our steel slat barrier will be totally effective while at the same time beautiful!

At press time, Anne was instructing bar patrons to take shits in the nearby Dunkin, should the need arise.
