STOKES LAWN Chestnut Hill’s own Gavin Gadget, local inventor, came to campus Tuesday with bells on and a trunk full of wild gizmos of his own creation. Excited to share his inventions with the Boston College community, Gadget was shocked to learn that this weekend is not Patents Weekend as he had previously believed. Instead of meeting the leaders of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Gadget was met with a flier to the face advertising the impending arrival of drunk, child-raising folks for Parents Weekend.

“I could’ve sworn I heard it was Patents Weekend. I thought it would be a good networking opportunity to put my name on a larger, global map,” Gadget confessed. “Now I have all of my thingamabobs and whos-its with me for nothing.”

“I was expecting a Belle’s-dad-from-Beauty-and-the-Beast-esque invention convention, sprawling across the campus,” Gadget added.

Nevertheless, Gadget said he plans to stick around for the weekend in hopes of getting recognized and building a following. “I still have hope that this weekend can be saved. I mean, there has to be someone that knows someone from the USPTO.”

At press time, Gadget was seen standing on a soap box outside of Corcoran Commons trying to advertise his newest invention to anybody willing to listen.
