Dear BC Republicans Executive Board,

You condemned cyberbullying directed at your members by Trump opponents following the election in a Sunday op-ed published in The Heights.

We understand the fear and unease that comes when your preferred candidate wins and will be in office for four years. It’s an awful feeling no one ever likes to experience in either party.

However, we, as BC students, will not stand with the lies that you posted in your op-ed. We said you were “short, fat, and ugly with grubby little rat hands.” We never called you racist.

That being said, we did say you condoned a lot of “isms.” Our members commented that you support Catholicism, autism, abolitionism, optimism, and altruism. We didn’t think this would cause as many issues as it did, so we take back our word. Next time, we’ll ensure that our members comment that you hate Catholicism, autism, abolitionism, optimism, The Great Schism of 1054, and altruism as much as you hate rape, racism, and sexism. That one’s on us.

As Boston College’s leading factual newspaper, we agree with BC Republicans on many issues. We never wanted our calling you “short, fat, and ugly with grubby little rat hands,” to create a divide in our relationship.

We have many things in common with you, BC Republicans. Here at The New England Classic, we also believe that well-established, long-standing, ethical journalism has no place in modern society. Mainstream sources—including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Heights—only serve to perpetuate fake news, reporting, and bipartisanship. We, on the other hand, serve our core American values: democracy, opportunity, and freedom.

We are shocked and disappointed that you would turn to The Heights, rather than us, to post your op-ed. The New England Classic and BC Republicans have an enduring, benevolent relationship. Remember when we posted that article that the Civil War was about states’ rights? Or, more recently, when we were the first to break that Iraq was hiding weapons of mass destruction? Good times.

But now, it seems we can no longer trust you. Reporting fake news such as this will never be condemnable. We stand by our statement that you are short, fat, and ugly with grubby little rat hands—and, hey, you’re probably racist, too.

Seeing as you also hate fake news, we were going to ask if your members wanted to apply for our open positions next semester. We would’ve loved to have some free-thinking individuals as part of our esteemed organization. Now, we’re not so sure.

Cordially,

The New England Classic Executive Board
