Fr. Leahy Invites Kanye West To Perform At MarMon: “I Think He’s Really Come Around!”

ST. MARY’S — William Leahy, S.J., took to social media on Monday morning to personally invite the popular hip-hop artist and creator of the YEEZY STEM PLAYER, Ye (born Kanye West), to perform at Boston College for its annual Marathon Monday festivities.

He tweeted: “Kanye! No one man should have all that power! Haha, yes he should! It’s God! Love what you’ve been doing in the digital space recently! We think you could really make a difference spreading your message here at BC April 17, whaddayasay? Or maybe for ‘Graduation’? Haha! Drunk and Hot Girls (feat. Mos Def).”

This invitation comes after a string of controversies surrounding Ye. Notably, the rapper/producer/creator of the YEEZY STEM PLAYER caught backlash for distributing and posting “White Lives Matter” shirts on his instagram.

The Classic reached out to Fr. Leahy, who initially declined to comment, but was ultimately persuaded when offered an official YEEZY STEM PLAYER.

He had this to say: “I just think the fellow has really been taking the culture in a great direction recently. I first took notice of him when he did a collaboration with that DaBaby fellow, who I first took notice of after his mid-concert sermon back in July last year.”

We were unsure of what event Fr. Leahy was referencing exactly here but assumed it to be DaBaby’s homophobic rant during his July 25, 2021 Rolling Loud performance.

Leahy continued, “He’s saying things a lot of people are afraid to say nowadays, and I know the youth listen to him. Also, I love that bar where he’s like, ‘She say ‘Can you get my friends in the club?’ I say ‘Can you get my benz in the club?’ If not, treat your friends like my Benz, Park they ass outside ‘til the evening end.’”

We also reached out to multiple students for their thoughts on the unfolding situation. Aubrey Graham (CSOM ’24), shared his outlook. “I was walking to my Targeting People of Color Through Marketing class when Father Leahy opened the door for me and said, ‘Waddup blud!’ It was really weird, so I just said ‘thanks’ and went on my way. Then when I turned around to look back I saw the old man cat-daddying down Stokes Lawn. Crazy stuff. Lowkey valid, though.”

Leahy has also been spotted rocking his new Yeezy Waverunners, most notably when he made an appearance at last Sunday’s mass. He ended the service by taking the mic and declaring: “We dropped them waverunners, now we run the wave!”

The big question among students seems to be: what type of Kanye will we get at Marathon Monday if this controversial friendship blooms? Vintage Kanye? Sunday Service Kanye? Nazi Kanye? The Classic continues to monitor the situation.
