Inspired By Trump’s CNN Ban, BC Removes The New England Classic’s Press Pass

NEC HEADQUARTERS — Boston College has just revoked The New England Classic’s campus press pass, mirroring the recent, unprecedented move by the Trump Administration. Last week, President Donald Trump barred CNN, MS NOW, and Politico reporters from the White House, justifying the ban by citing the new outlets’ refusal to “edit ever-so-slight BBLs onto photos of senior officials” and “abandon journalistic integrity to suck Trump’s rump.”
Known as a world-renowned beacon of journalism, the silencing of The NEC raises alarm bells for free speech advocates and silly goofy girls alike. The ban echoes many of the Trump Administration’s talking points, namely the rejected BBL edit requests and refusal to self-censor hard-hitting journalism like, “Are Freshmen Getting Hotter? This Grad Student Thinks Yes!” and “Pro-Life Club Sponsors Baby Petting Zoo.”
The revocation of The Classic’s press pass comes with little surprise given the rich history of free speech suppression on campus. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression has recently blessed Boston College with an impressive 50.9/100 free speech score, factoring in a variety of university policies and campus culture metrics. While that grade can, has, or will fail juniors out of Biological Chemistry, Boston College has taken no steps to revise restrictive speech and demonstration policies.
The Classic spoke to students currently looking to protest free speech and protest policies. Frista Amendamen (MCAS ’28), told reporters that she is “currently waiting for her protest registration to be approved.” She continued, “details on The Protest Against Protest Registration will be announced soon, following protest registration approval.”
