McELROY COMMONS — Capitalizing on the success of the Martin Jarmond clothing collection, the Boston College Bookstore unveiled its new “Jerry York Coffins” earlier this week.

When asked for comment, Bookstore officials said the move was a no-brainer.

“We know what the BC community wants,” said Bookstore manager William Mourt. “Students and alumni love polos and pull-overs, but what the most die-hard Eagles fan needs is a final resting place adorned with maroon and gold. We can’t think of a better model for this than Coach York, whose dignity and grace transitioned seamlessly from the sidelines to six feet under.”

According to reports, initial reactions have been largely positive. Jack McGill (CSOM ’21) said he is particularly excited by the new venture.

“My entire family loves BC hockey, and my grandpa’s not getting any younger,” he said. “Our original plan was to bury him in a Baldwin costume, but this seems a little classier.”

The new coffins will come in a variety of colors and styles, from a modest gray box with maroon trim to an elaborate white and gold sarcophagus emblazoned with the BC Eagle and engraved with York’s signature. Also available for purchase is the Deluxe Package, where including a bagpipe rendition of “For Boston” to play at the funeral, as well as a collectible bobblehead of Coach York.

At press time, the Bookstore was seen training hockey players for its new “Pallbearers on Ice” program.
