ROBSHAM— When Theatre major Trip L. Threat (MCAS ‘28) made his debut as Rafiki in his high school production of Lion King, he knew he was meant for stardom. Nominated for several perfect attendance and participation awards for his sophomore year production of Pippin, the self-proclaimed prodigy’s claim to fame was serving as an understudy for Boq in a local production of Wicked.

Alas, one fateful day during his senior year production of SpongeBob: The Musical, Threat’s Broadway dreams were shattered when he broke a leg slipping on an unfortunately placed banana peel during final dress rehearsals. Further X-rays revealed the worst fate a stage performer could face: a torn ACL. With his hopes for a Jimmy Award nomination dashed, the Tony hopeful reluctantly turned to his last resort: college.

After moving into his new glamorous trailer (Keyes quad), Threat took no time at all to make his presence known. Pas de bourree-ing from room to room, he belted his favorite greeting song, “Good Morning Baltimore” from the hit musical comedy Hairspray.

“I’m actually a high tenor so my range is really versatile which might earn me some popularity points in the dorm. My voice teacher also says that the natural reverb in the stairwells here creates the perfect echo-chamber for my vibrato.”

When asked about regrets from his glory days, Threat assured us of having no grievances.

“It feels good to step aside to give another kid a fighting chance. Broadway was probably a little too saturated for me anyways, I like the underground feel of Robsham a little better.”

At press time, Threat was seen bribing a senior to give up their spot in the coveted Hamilton class.
