CHESTNUT HILL — “I know how hard Harry has worked to get here,” said Gus Liter (MCAS ’26). “The barriers he struggled to overcome and the norms he had to disrupt. It’s so refreshing to see someone that looks like me up on that stage. I love that the Academy is working towards a progressive future, full of people whose stories I can finally relate to.”

Harry Styles, dressed in a sparkly shirt, received two Grammys for his recent album, Harry’s House. Liter hopes this event sets a precedent for future white men interested in success. Liter, who was introduced to Styles’ music by one of the girls he was hooking up with a month ago, says Styles is not only someone he sees much of himself in, but a style icon as well.

“I love that he subverted masculine norms when he wore a dress on the cover of Vogue,” Liter told the Classic. “He inspired me to dress up as a maid for Halloween. It got me viral on TikTok. Don’t get me started on why Harry wore a pilgrim hat in that photoshoot, though. Even I don’t know what the fuck that was.”

As Styles has gained popularity in the past few years, Liter has noticed a shift in how others view his gender expression.

“I can explore my feminine side without fear of discrimination,” said Liter. “Like, when my girlfriend begs to paint my nails, I don’t yell at her to shut her hole anymore.”

Unrelated to Styles, Liter was excited to share the fact his ear was pierced “on the non-gay side.” It should be noted that the stud was so small that the Classic reporter in the interview had to squint to see it.

At press time, Liter was seen sliding up on several women’s Instagram stories asking them if they had ever heard of The Smiths.
